How to make a Hologram from your smart phone or tablet
Pretty much everyone has a smartphone nowadays. The small device that you carry around in your pockets is a very complicated piece of technology. Not only does it allow you to communicate with family and friends around the globe, it is a flashlight, gaming device, map system all-in-one and so much more. Holograms are awesome and it would be amazing to have a holographic projector on your phone, unfortunately we haven't figured out how to make them work quite yet not mentioning making them small enough to fit in your pocket. But there are some pretty awesome low-tech things that you can do with your phone like making a video that looks like a 3d hologram. It sounds complex, but in fact, even the least tech-savvy person could figure this out. And best of all, you can make this using material that most of us have lying about the house. Well today I will show you how to turn your phone of tablet or even TV screen in to an amazing hologram. If you ever wondered how those big time singers and performers do their holographic effects, well here is your chance.
What you will need
For this little project you will need the following items.
- A Smartphone or tablet
- A sheet of transparent plastic, for best results try to get yourself a projector transparency
- A pair of scissors or an exacto knife (If you don't feel commutable with using those tools get someone who is to use them for you).
- (Optional) dark tape or electrical tape.
Step: 1
You need to make the screen for the hologram out of the transparency or transparent plastic sheet. To do that you need to cut a rectangular piece of plastic that is as wide as the height of your phone or tablet and tree times as the height of your device. In other words a roughly 1x by 3x rectangular piece were x is the height of your screen on your phone or tablet.
Step: 2
Now take the piece you cut out and fold it in half at its logiest side then. Now bend two half inch wide ledges in wards to the bend plastic. If done correctly it should be able to stand on its own without bending or collapsing on itself. Now you could cover the lower part of the screen with some electrical tape to hide the phone and make the illusion that much more effective, but it is optional.
Step: 3
Now it is time to make the hologram last longer. You can skip this step if you don't want to mess around with your phone's settings. Go the settings in your phone and find the "Sleep" option and set it to never. You can generality find that option under the submenus "Display" or "Battery".
Step: 4
Finally you can load up your video, Image, Gif or use one our hologram apps like the "Halloween Holograms". Then put your phone flat on the table, put the screen over on it and you are done. You have your own holographic projector that you can use as a decoration, to watch a video or movie and play a prank on a friend.
